Latest news on plans for Olin’s MBA global immersion

Note two messages below, the first intended for incoming WashU Olin MBA students in the class of 2023 and the second for current MBA students in the class of 2022.

MBA class of 2023

We are reaching out to update you on the Olin global immersion experience. As you know, when WashU Olin’s MBA global immersion began in 2019, it immediately became a defining feature of our program. Although the pandemic has forced changes to when we deliver that experience, I want you to know that everyone at Olin remains committed to ensuring it happens.

You will begin your program on June 7, 2021, and we are making plans to take the three-continent trip from mid-September through October of your first year. The trip follows Career Impact Week with the Weston Career Center and a two-week break. Prior to that, you’ll complete a summer semester immersed in Olin’s core MBA curriculum. Those core classes will provide valuable grounding for the work you’ll do abroad. Review this calendar for specific dates for the class of 2023’s global immersion.

It is our goal to be fully transparent about this process, so there are two important points to share. First, as you might imagine, the specifics of these plans depend entirely on the trajectory of the pandemic and the vaccine rollout. The health of our students, staff and faculty is and will remain our primary concern. Exact dates and travel locations may need to change, depending on circumstances beyond our control.

Second, our team is monitoring the public health situation and vaccine rollout schedules constantly, as well as the anticipated ability to travel to locations abroad. We have pivoted our plans before, and we’re prepared to pivot again—while delivering the experience you expect from the WashU MBA.

If you have any questions about the MBA global immersion—or any other aspects of the WashU MBA experience—please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.

MBA class of 2022

As you know, when WashU Olin’s MBA global immersion began in 2019, it immediately became a defining feature of our program. Though the pandemic has forced changes to when we deliver that experience, you can be assured that we are committed to ensuring it happens.

Our plans call for members of your class to take the three-continent immersion in either fall 2021 or spring 2022. The student services team will let you know by March 15 which group you will join after carefully considering each student’s academic and career planning schedule requirements.

The fall group would travel from late August through early October, returning two weeks before Mini-B. A more detailed calendar for the fall group is available here. The spring group would take its six-week excursion during Mini-B. Find the spring 2022 calendar here.

There are two important points to remember. First, as you might imagine, the specifics of these plans depend entirely on the trajectory of the pandemic and the vaccine rollout. The health of our students, staff and faculty is and will remain our paramount concern. Exact dates and travel locations may need to change, depending on circumstances beyond our control.

Second, the Olin team is monitoring the public health situation and vaccine rollout schedules constantly, as well as the anticipated ability to travel to locations abroad. You’ve seen firsthand our ability to be agile over the past year. You can expect no less now, and we’re prepared to pivot again, if necessary, to deliver the experience you expect from the WashU MBA.
